A response draft can become easier to read while its factual claims become harder to check. A sentence changes, an exhibit moves, and the citation left behind points to the previous page. Comparing the wording alone will miss that problem.
Use a short change log beside the draft. It is a recordkeeping tool for you and counsel, not an eligibility assessment, legal strategy or prediction of approval.
Keep the compared files fixed
Save the two versions you are comparing with clear dates and version names. Keep the filed petition and its exhibits separately identified. A working draft is not the filed record. If you cannot establish which copy was filed, mark that uncertainty and ask counsel before relying on its page references.
Record both the document page and the combined PDF page where they differ. Do not overwrite the earlier version while reviewing the later one.

Reviewer and review date:
Start with material factual changes: numbers, dates, who did the work, who used it, and how widely it was used. You do not need a separate row for every punctuation change.
Fictional example: a sentence became broader
Earlier wording: “Two customer teams used the reporting tool during a pilot.” Later wording: “The reporting tool was adopted across the industry.”
The example source is a dated pilot summary naming two teams. It supports the narrower pilot statement. It does not establish industry-wide adoption. Put that gap in the change log and ask counsel what wording the documented facts support. Do not silently upgrade the claim because the later sentence sounds stronger.
A separate row should track a citation change. If the same source moves from combined PDF page 42 to page 47, open page 47 in the later PDF and confirm that it contains the intended passage. A valid reference in the earlier copy does not establish that the later reference is correct.
Check a changed number from its source
If a draft changes “12 users” to “120 users,” record the date, definition and source for each number. Were they active users, registrations, teams or organizations? Was the measurement period the same? Leave the change unresolved until someone checks the underlying record. The worksheet cannot decide which facts are legally relevant.
Keep additions visible
Label proposed new material separately from material already filed. Record when the underlying event occurred and when the document was created. Ask qualified immigration counsel whether and how it belongs in the response. This worksheet does not determine whether new evidence is admissible or establishes eligibility.
The handoff is a small set of specific questions
- Does the revised wording stay within what the cited passage documents?
- Can the reader find that passage in the exact PDF being reviewed?
- Did a date, number, role or claim of wider use change without a supporting record?
- Which unresolved changes need counsel's decision before the draft moves forward?
A row marked checked means the named factual or citation check was performed. It does not mean the claim meets an immigration criterion or that the response is ready to file.
Keep the records private
Work in storage you are authorized to use. Do not upload employer-confidential material to an AI service without permission and appropriate terms. Do not send petition files through social messages. Use fictional examples for public questions.
